I have never used a serger before. Will I be able to thread the Janome 8002D?

Janome built the threading around color-coded thread guides and lay-in tension dials, and the machine comes pre-threaded with 4 starter spools. When you change colors, you can tie the new thread to the old one and follow the existing path. Our beginner guide to sergers covers the basics.

How do I switch to a rolled hem?

Per the Janome instruction book, pull the needle plate setting knob from 'S' to 'R'. There is no separate plate to swap.

Will it stretch out jersey knits?

Differential feed (0.5–2.25) lets you adjust how the fabric feeds, which helps keep knits from waving. Test on a scrap first, and see our wavy serger hems guide for settings.

What needles does it use?

HA-1SP household-style needles in size #11 or #14, per Janome's instruction book.

Does it sew 2-thread stitches?

Janome describes the 8002D as a 3/4-thread serger. For 2-thread stitches, look at a 2/3/4-thread model such as the Juki MO-654DE.
