Bobbins for the HD3000

Janome lists the HD-3000 as compatible with its clear plastic bobbins, sold as Bobbin Standard and the 10 pack Bobbins (Janome Bobbin Standard compatibility list, Janome 10 pack Bobbins compatibility list). Bobbins that look alike can differ slightly in height and fit, so stick with the bobbin Janome lists for your machine. Need some? Needles for the HD3000

Janome's fabric and needle chart for the HD3000 recommends #11/75 or #14/90 for general sewing, going finer or heavier with the fabric (Janome HD-3000 instruction book):

Janome lists its Blue Tip, Red Tip and Purple Tip needles and some versions of its assorted needle set (match the part number, or confirm with us) as compatible with the HD-3000 (Blue Tip, Red Tip, Purple Tip, assorted needles). Janome's HD3000 documentation doesn't name a needle system, so before buying another brand's needles, confirm with us at support@threadworks.com. Presser feet and accessories

Janome lists these standard accessories for the HD3000: zig-zag foot, automatic buttonhole foot, blind hem foot, overedge foot C, rolled hem foot, zipper foot E, quilting guide bar, standard bobbins, foot control, large screwdriver, lint brush, seam ripper, and large and small spool holders. The machine also comes with a hard cover.

Janome lists the HD-3000 as compatible with these optional feet and accessories:

• Even Feed Foot (5-7mm LS) and Open Toe Even Feed Foot with quilting guide, Janome's walking foot for keeping layers feeding evenly (Janome Even Feed Foot)
• Roller Foot (5-7mm), which Janome describes for sewing over heavy seams and uneven surfaces (Janome Roller Foot)
• Ultra Glide Foot (5-7mm), for fabrics that stick to a metal foot (Janome Ultra Glide Foot)
• 1/4" Seam Foot, in the 5-7mm top load, O2 scant and 7mm without-guide versions (Janome 1/4" Seam Foot)
• Clear wide table for HD5000/3000, an acrylic extension table for a larger work surface (Janome clear wide table)

Sewing denim, heavier fabrics and leather

Janome's chart lists denim, tweed, coating and quilting as heavy-weight fabrics for the HD3000, with a #14/90 to #16/100 needle. To start on a thick seam, lower the needle into the fabric, press and hold the small black button on the zigzag foot, lower the presser foot, then release the button and sew; your manual covers this under straight stitching on heavy fabrics.

For leather, Janome publishes a leather sewing guide for the HD-3000. Its guidance:

• Use a leather needle: 90/14 for seams, 100/16 for top-stitching.
• Use leather thinner than 4mm. When sewing through more than 4 layers, use leather less than 2mm thick.
• Set a 3mm stitch length and the presser foot pressure dial to 3.
• Use the black leveling button on the foot whenever the front of the foot lifts higher than the back, including when starting on several layers.
• Sew seams with 50wt all-purpose thread; top-stitch with top stitch/jeans thread.

Janome's guide uses the standard foot with its leveling button. Janome describes its optional Roller Foot (5-7mm), which lists the HD-3000, as also used for sticky leathers and vinyl. More: sewing heavy fabrics.

What bobbins does the Janome HD3000 use?

Janome clear plastic bobbins. Janome lists the HD-3000 on the compatibility lists for its Bobbin Standard and 10 pack Bobbins.

What needles does the HD3000 take?

Janome recommends #11/75 or #14/90 for general sewing, #9/65–11/75 for fine fabrics and #14/90–16/100 for heavy fabrics such as denim. Janome also lists its Blue Tip, Red Tip and Purple Tip needles as compatible.

Can the HD3000 sew leather?
