Construct stunning geometric layouts without the historically difficult setup of traditional template mapping. The Creative Grids Hexagon Trim Tool (CGRJAW4) completely simplifies multi-sided piecing by incorporating an incremental squaring framework into a heavy-duty acrylic template. Designed by popular quilting author Jean Ann Wright, this tool allows you to build flawless pieced hexagons with 2-inch, 4-inch, or 6-inch finished centers, or cleanly slice out solid 2-inch to 8-inch hexagons. By trimming each round of fabric logs as you grow your design, it keeps all corners exact and prevents the blocks from shifting out of square.
Exclusive Non-Slip Embedded Gripper: Patented textured gripper dots on the back slide smoothly across your yardage until light cutting pressure is applied, anchoring instantly to prevent dangerous template slipping and wasted fabrics.
Progressive Strip Squaring Tracks: Features specialized internal registration grids to build and true up pieced hexagon configurations with 2-inch, 4-inch, or 6-inch finished centers layer by layer.
Solid Block Cutting Capabilities: Calibrated with clear measurement sights to draft and cut solid, un-pieced finished hexagons in whole-inch increments ranging from 2 inches up to 8 inches.
No-Math Marking Array: Displays high-contrast black and white lines alongside clear white circled numbers to guide your trimming sequence without difficult fractional math calculations.
Eliminates Advanced Inset Seams: Designed to work directly with straightforward strip-piecing methods, allowing you to bypass traditional, tedious "Y-seams" entirely for faster construction.
Industrial Laser-Cut Precision: Heavy-duty premium acrylic features smooth, robust outer edges that protect your fingers and provide a durable guide wall for standard rotary cutter blades.
Assembling six-sided hexagon blocks traditionally means dealing with bias-cut fabric edges that stretch out of proportion with the slightest manipulation. Over multiple rounds of piecing, minor seam variations compound rapidly, leaving you with puckered centers or wavy outer borders. The CGRJAW4 completely stops this frustration. Because you securely hold the block steady beneath the non-slip workspace and trim the raw perimeter after each round of strips, any sewing drift is instantly sliced away. Your units assemble perfectly on your sewing machine and press out beautifully flat.
Modern Geometric Artists: An absolute necessity for quilters creating intricate mosaic star designs, complex grandmother’s flower garden updates, or contemporary interlocking layouts.
Scrap and Strip Quilters: Excellent for transforming random fabric remnants, left-over strips, and continuous jelly rolls into identical, clean geometric blocks.
All Skill Levels: Simplifies advanced structural balancing so that intermediate quilters and ambitious beginners can achieve professional-grade results without complex drafting steps.

Do I need to sew traditional Y-seams to use this hexagon ruler?
No. This tool is engineered to utilize modern strip-piecing techniques. You sew straightforward, straight fabric logs around a central point and use the template to trim the block into a perfect hexagon, entirely avoiding inset curves or difficult corner manipulation.
How does the progressive trim feature help my precision?
Fabric stretching can cause blocks to become distorted as they expand. By placing the ruler down and squaring up the outer perimeter after completing each round of fabric strips, you reset the block back to exact geometric tolerances before adding the next round.
Can left-handed quilters read the lines clearly?
Yes. The high-contrast black and white grid patterns and mirrored alignment markings allow both left- and right-handed makers to position the ruler comfortably without distorting their view of the measurements.
