Unlock double the design potential on your patchwork layouts without changing your tools. The Creative Grids 10" Log Cabin Trim Tool Duo (CGRJAW10) is a premium acrylic template engineered by designer Jean Ann Wright to handle both standard and micro-scale variations of the classic log cabin block. Featuring dual sets of configuration guides on a single workspace, this heavy-duty square ruler lets you square up every fabric layer with engineering accuracy before adding the next round, preventing wavy seams and distorted corners entirely.
Patented Non-Slip Grip Ring Matrix: Features the signature Creative Grids clear gripper texture on the underside. The tool slides smoothly across your materials until light cutting pressure is applied, anchoring instantly to prevent template slipping and costly cutting mistakes.
Dual-Width Strip Compatibility: Engineered with two independent sets of measurement tracks right on the acrylic surface: one layout optimized for standard 1-inch finished logs, and a secondary track for delicate 1/2-inch finished logs.
Three Classic Patchwork Layouts: Explicitly designed with alignment parameters to build and trim traditional Log Cabin blocks, Half Log Cabin blocks, and perfectly balanced Courthouse Steps blocks up to a 10-inch finished dimension.
Permanent On-Ruler Cutting Guide: Both sets of required fabric strip widths and central foundation square parameters are printed directly on the ruler for easy reference.
Precision Round Squaring: Features step-by-step centering grids that sit over your initial central patch, allowing you to slice away minor stitching drift and tension variances at the completion of every single round.
High-Contrast Sightlines: Crisp black and white measurement markers alongside white circled step indicators guarantee effortless visibility on dark batiks, solid backings, or bright multi-colored fabric prints.
Traditional log cabin construction is notorious for bias distortion; as you stitch narrow strips onto a shifting base, slight variations in your 1/4-inch seam margins compound rapidly. Over multiple layers, this turns a square block into an uneven trapezoid. The CGRJAW10 completely halts this compounding error. Because you safely lock the central patch down under the non-slip workspace and trim the raw outer perimeter at every stage, all completed blocks emerge mathematically identical. They assemble cleanly on your machine and lay completely flat under a hot iron.
Scrap and Stash Buster Quilters: Excellent for turning random left-over fabric strips and jelly rolls into beautifully balanced, high-contrast structural designs.
Advanced Geometric Designers: Perfect for combining standard 1-inch logs with micro 1/2-inch strips within the same unit to create intricate optical depth and specialized shadow layouts.
Production and Assembly-Line Sewers: Designed to maximize efficiency for volume piecers who prefer cutting and squaring sets in rapid structural stages without stopping to swap templates.

Can I mix the 1-inch logs and 1/2-inch logs inside the same block?
Absolutely. The "Duo" layout is specifically designed to allow you to combine both narrow and standard strip widths in the same block, giving you limitless design options for modern logs and custom borders.
Why is the total size of the ruler 10.5 inches if it cuts a 10-inch block?
The extra 1/2 inch represents the raw seam allowances (1/4 inch per side). When the trimmed blocks are stitched together into your final quilt layout, that extra margin is absorbed, leaving a perfect 10-inch block visible.
Do I have to trim my pieces after every single individual strip is attached?
No. You sew a complete "round" (a strip attached to all applicable sides of the growing center) and then place the template down to trim the round square before adding the next layer.
